I’ve got a love-hate relationship with this particular time of year. One day we are working our tails off to catch 3 or 4 fish and then the next day you catch 30. Or one day they call for it to be slick-calm and it blows 25mph and the next day they call for some wind and it is greasy flat. You’ve got to learn to roll with the punches in February and March and make the best of whatever situation you’re dealt. Luckily for Major Higgins, he ended up getting one of those 30-fish days. We found some fish that were happily chomping and even harassing some of the small baitfish that scarcely inhabit the creeks this time of year. The next day, it was so flat that we took my skiff out of the inlet and 8 miles into the ocean for some bottom fishing. We used large artificial baits and weeded out the small black sea bass and were able to bring home some groceries for the kids – they love fish sticks! It was cool bottom fishing out of a skiff on a slick day. We must hve caught 40 sea bass throughout the morning. Click on the pics if you’d like to view them in full size.
