South Carolina Summer Tarpon + Reds/Trout/Flounder

Had some great fishing this weekend with friends Matt, Perry, & Douglas. We started the weekend off seeing a few rolling tapon – got a bait over to one and was on! Douglas fought this tarpon for over an hour before we got her boatside. Here’s some video of the tarpon action… South Carolina Tarpon Video

We managed some nice flounder, redfish, and trout throughout the rest of the weekend. Here are a few photos from our time on the water. The fishing will be heating up as we approach the fall. The shrimp are getting huge and the mullet run is pretty much beginning. Now is the time to catch a tarpon in South Carolina. We are looking forward to the next several months as they are the pinnacle of Lowcountry fishing.

August Flood Tides – South Carolina Tailing Redfish

Last night I had an opportunity to catch up with a couple of good friends and go out in search of some tailing redfish. We had some fair/good action throughout the evening and tried a couple of different fiddler crab patterns that the fish seemed to like. Best part – I actually got to take the bow last night and get my first flood tide fish of the summer. Thanks to good buds who insisted that I stick one on fly last night.

July 23rd & 24th 2011 – Georgetown, SC Fishing Charters

Had a couple of good fishing trips on saturday and sunday. Had Dan from Charlotte, NC on saturday. He caught some really nice reds and did battle with several 60-80lb spinner sharks. Its almost as fun as tarpon fishing when those spinner harks get airborne.

On sunday I was able to take my friend Oscar and his two boys. Oscar and I have worked together at the Hospital since I finished school. He leaves next week to begin a new job as CEO of a Hospital in the Appalachian mountains. Oscar has been a good mentor over the years and it was nice to return the favor by putting him and his boys on some nice redfish. Good luck in your new job Oscar. Hopefully I can get up there and fish some of your trout streams!

Flood Tide Redfishing – Georgetown, South Carolina

Fished at sunset last night with long-time client, Roger (AKA Bodygaurd). The fish were tailing pretty hard at first, eating every fiddler crab they could find. We caught one and then went through a period where we didn’t see a fish for what seemed like an hour – then we changed flats and it picked back up again. Rodger threw Gulp Shrimp (new penny color) and it seemed to do the trick pretty well. After a long debate, Roger talked me into letting him keep one 23″ fish for dinner. I don’t keep them often, but felt like he earned a good meal. We cleaned the fish and found a pile of fiddlers and blue crabs in its stomach. Hard to imagine one 23″ fish could get that much food down – and still want to eat Roger’s Gulp bait. I would definitely advise you fly people to be throwing crab patterns in the grass.

We got back in the grass briefly on Wednesday evening. Douglas’ first cast with the Mirrolure 5″ Provoker picked up this nice tailing redfish. We used the gold/red glitter pattern. These are great looking baits.

Dave & Sam – May 29th 2011 – Georgetown, SC Fishing

Fished with Dave and his son-in-law Sam today. This was a special day for Dave because he just entered retirement – live it up Dave! Sam was in town from Chile in South America. We had great weather and lighter winds that made for some better sight fishing – finally. Dave and Sam did a great job and caught some really big reds. The fish were caught on live mullet and gulp swimming mullet on a 1/4 oz jig. Good job boys.
