Bobby Clarke Memorial 2011 – Georgetown, SC Fishing

I had Hampton & Russ scheduled for a charter and was reminded that the Bobby Clarke Memorial Tournament was happening in Georgetown, SC today. We called Georgetown Landing Marina and got Hampton registered the night before the tournament. We started the day off by catching a nice blacktip shark that kept Russ & Hampton on the bow for at least 30mins. The rest of the day we picked at the redfish here and there – it was a little slower than normal due to the heat. Hampton did a great job today and got to weigh a nice 3.4 lb redfish at the tournament. He was the only kid to release his catch after the weigh-in. Great job Hampton! You da man. All fish were caught on live menhaden fished on circle hooks on the bottom. As you can imagine, most of the activity was early in the morning with the heat advisory in effect.

July 9th & 10th – Charlie & Jason – Georgetown, SC Fishing Charters

Fished with two of my buds this weekend. We jumped tarpon both days, but didn’t bring one to hand. The action was pretty consistent, but we had some issues with our anchor setup. Now that we’ve worked out the kinks, I’m ready to get this tarpon season rolling. Amongst the tarpon were a pile of blacktip, spinner, and blacknose sharks. They aren’t as glamorous as tarpon, but they’re still a blast to catch. Catching fish between 30 & 100 lbs in 3ft of water is a riot. Mullets flying everywhere and fins out of the water – oh yeah. We also slipped into the shallow water and snagged a nice pile of redfish. For some reason, I can’t get as excited about redfish when those giant tarpon are cruising our inshore waters.
